Citrix User Profile Manager (in combi with WEM) is not kicking in when a user logs on
We had an annoying issue in a Citrix environment of one of our customers. After a periodic update of the infrastructure, we found out that our test users were not receiving there profiles settings.
After some investigation, it seemed that Citrix Workspace Environment Manager (WEM) and the Citrix User Profile settings were not enforced when users logged on. Within WEM we saw the following status of the Agent of the affected server.

After running the Refresh Profile Management Configuration Check… (right mouse click on the affected machine), and looking on the affected machine in the C:\Windows\Temp\UPMConfigCheckOutput.xml I found the following “error”.
*** Warning: ServiceActive actual/effective setting (Disabled) does not match preferred setting (Enabled)
UPM is configured as disabled by default, and must be explicitly enabled
A quick fix is to return to WEM and the affected agent, again press the right mouse click and execute the following steps:
- Refresh Agent Host Settings…
- Refresh Workspace Agent(s)…
- Reset Profile Management Settings…
Now rerun the Refresh Profile Management Configuration Check… and you will see that the UPM service is enabled by checking the contents of the UPMConfigCheckOutput.xml file on the affected machine.
